CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


PRE-BALLET

A class tailored to our 3 to 5 year old tiny dancers. This class emphasizes the creative art of dance while providing an exciting new learning environment. Class also includes use of props and activities designed to introduce dance and movement to toddlers, specifically focusing on ballet technique. Skills learned and carried beyond the dance classes include communication skills, memory development, and social involvement.


TAP AND BALLET COMBO

A creative and engaging introduction to the world of dance for 3 to 5 year olds. This class allows your child to explore the possibilities of movement and continues student development of body awareness, rhythm, flexibility, coordination, and confidence in a stimulating and structured environment.  In this class, students will explore ballet movement as well as an introduction to tap vocabulary.


PRE-BALLET

Students explore rhythm, spatial relationships, and ballet movement as well as the beginnings of choreography through memory and repetition exercises. This is a joyful, fun class that encourages and honors individual expression. This class expands on creative and imaginative exploration of movement and begins to focus on qualities of dance and pathways. Students further develop specific movement skills such as jumps, turns, and basic ballet steps.


BALLET CLASSES

The students begin their formal classical ballet training with an emphasis on building self-discipline as well as self-confidence in the mastery of the art form. Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style. In addition Pointe is offered. Ballet is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines. 


CONTEMPORARY CLASSES

This dance form explores movement, space, rhythm and the dancers own creativity with emphasizes on momentum, shapes and patterns. Lyrical dance is inspired by nature, music, art, and human emotions. Contemporary is a form of dance, which incorporates elements of both classical ballet and modern dance. It takes the technique of classical ballet and permits a greater range of movement. Many of its concepts come from the ideas and innovations of 20th century dance, including floor-work, balletic movements and turn-in of the legs.


JAZZ CLASSES


We challenge our students with many different forms of jazz, all high energy to fun and fast paced music. They include such elements as kicks, leaps, turns, and isolations. Classes include stretch and strengthening exercises, floor work, and across the floor progressions in addition to a center floor combinations. Dancers will learn the basic steps, vocabulary, and variations of dance in jazz including dance used in musical theater, commercial and entertainment industries.


MODERN CLASSES

Our classes combine classical modern, post-modern (west coast style), capoeira and pedestrianism- all the while encouraging students to find their own voice in their movement. They will be guided to listen to their inner self while exploring the negative space, from connection to the floor though transitions to weightlessness. Modern classes will be based on the process of what it is to create a living, breathing, and changing piece. Classes will include warm ups featuring a mixture of yoga, Pilates and modern barre. Students will have the opportunity to learn original choreography as well as developing their own improvisational skills. 


TEEN CLASSES

These classes are targeted for teens who want to improve their overall muscle tone, while gaining more flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and better posture. Students learn basic ballet technique while targeting the muscle tone of abdominals, hips and legs. Teen Tap teaches the more advanced technique of tap along with performance and rhythm. This series is a fun, innovative workout that will work magic on the mind and body and give participants the lean ballet body they want to accomplish.


Hip Hop

These classes are fast-paced and energetic dance style using the latest street/urban dance moves set to hip hop music. Hip hop encompasses a wide range of street styles including breaking, locking and popping. This class for young beginners specifically focuses on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style. Teen Hip Hop classes are a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to create a cultural piece of art.
